John F. Fuqua, 87, of
Terre Haute passed away April 30, 2009, at Union Hospital. He
was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Sanford, Ind. the son of Bertha and
Charles Fuqua. He retired as Yard Master after 40 years of
service with Conrail. After retirement John and Criss enjoyed
the winter months in Key Largo, Fla. He is survived by his
spouse of 47 years, Crystal "Criss" Fuqua; son, Dr. Keith Fuqua
and wife Chris of Toledo, Ohio; daughters, Karen Whitlock and
husband Dale of Terre Haute, stepdaughter, Loretta Mosteller,
stepdaughter, Linda Shaker and husband Earl; five grandchildren,
14 great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Charles, three
sisters and one brother. He is a U.S. Army veteran and served in
World War II. He was a 1939 graduate of Riley High School. He
was a member of Kriestenstein American Legion Post 104, Past
Master of William Penn Lodge 727, Zorah Shrine, Past Worthy
Patron of 12 points O.E.S. 528, past Director of Antique Auto
Club, Scottish Rite, Lifetime member of V.F.W. 972, Lite
Membership Moose Lodge, Member Marine Corp. League, and Railroad
Retirement Club. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Mattox-Wood
Funeral Home with the Rev. Monty Barker officiating. Calling
hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with Masonic service at 7 p.m. in
the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with
military honors by Kriestenstein Post 104, and a Masonic service
by William Penn Lodge 727. In Lieu of flowers donations can be
made to Shriners Children's Hospital, envelopes will be
available at the funeral home.
