William Jukes

 

William Jukes, age 85, passed away early Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2007, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Clay City, to George William Jukes and Olive Comer Jukes. He was a graduate of Rosedale High School in 1940, and was a retired firefighter from the Terre Haute Fire Department. On March 28, 1941, he married Mary Alsop and she survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II. He was a member of William Penn Lodge 727 Free and Accepted Masons.He is also survived by his son, William Edward Jukes and his wife Connie; two grandsons, William Edward Jukes Jr. and his friend Amy Hogue, and Thomas Jukes and his wife Sharon; two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Mary Elizabeth. Other survivors include a brother, Harry Jukes of Crowley, La.; three sisters, Mary Kathryn Keltz of Rosedale, Ruth Anne Hunter of Rockville, and Olive Millicent Daily of Port Richey, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Sue Greggs and her husband David of Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, George Alsop and his wife Rita; very good friends, Jack Switzer and his wife Betty; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Bernard Jukes and Raymond Jukes.Private family services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with the Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Private visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Veterans of Foreign Wars and Masonic services will be held at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, the Union Hospital Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
